I avoid all these treacherous pitfalls by simply avoiding friendships. Problem solved. Leaves more time for writing! And, of course, there's dinner by myself, and movie night...uhm...alone, and playing pool against...against myself. Uhm...actually...hold on a moment.

I know this barely has anything to do with me (since I'm an indie writer who mostly spends time interacting with other writers on instagram), but I like this so much that I'm going to save these and do my best to commit them to memory. And live them of course. I already scrapped a planned post that would have me an object of pity (wasn't my intent, but I'd rather not risk it).

Thank you! One of my writer friends read this post and said the idea is mostly that we should try not to take out our insecurities on each other. It’s so difficult to avoid that sometimes! I keep trying!

Wonderful post, Parker. Creativity is the key, and the fact that there will always be room on the bookshelf.

Thank you so much for that comment, Noelle. It can be so difficult to be grounded while in such a tough industry. But I think it’s only through the hard experiences that I’ve gained any wisdom. Wishing you the best!

Forgot to put this in the initial comment but the line “you are not a god. You do not subsist on praise” is going to go with me to the grave. Hits in the best way
