I’m still hard at work on the novel whose initial rewrite was inspired by another of your posts on tension (and now I’m realizing this is an old post I’m commenting on, but oh well) and it’s funny that the trick mentioned is putting a dead body at the beginning, because that’s sort of (but not exactly) what I’ve done.

When it was still a short, the story was tentatively called “Golden Lampshades,” in reference to an object in the story. Now it’s “What Happened to Trunkin,” which is the driving question of the book that your other post helped me crystallize. He’s not dead, but the readers won’t know that.
